Are you sick and tired of only seeing the posts that Instagram want you to see? Do you long for the days when you saw everything in chronological order so you missed nothing? If you do, then Vero True Social Medial could be the app for you.
Now I confess that I knew nothing about this platform until yesterday when I read an interesting article by Walid Azami on Fstoppers. However, from what I have seen so far it is the alternative I was looking for.
Photographers and other creative artists have spent ages building up social followers on Instagram and parent company Facebook. And at first that was great. But then they started to tinker with algorithms to bring you not what you wanted to see but what they wanted you to see. This means that you don't see all the posts of the people you follow, but more importantly, your followers don't see all your posts. And if you have a Page on Fb and you want your posts to reach a wider audience you need to pay. OK, at £3-5 per post it isn't much, but if you post something a couple of times a day that sum soon mounts up. Not showing my posts to everyone until I pay you is extortion. And then there is the advertising. Everything you post or comment on is analysed and used to 'tailor make' advertising for you.
Why is Vero different?
I could go on and on about how Fb and Ig are manipulating and controlling our social media lives. Vero promises not to use algorithms, ever, to manipulate what we see. Everything is organised into chronological order and you get to see everyone's posts. There is no advertising. At the moment the app is free to download, but you will have to pay in the future. They say the cost of a couple of cups of coffee per month. But that is OK to get rid of all those adverts I'm not interested in.
There are 4 levels of privacy: close friends, friends, acquaintances and followers. You get to choose who sees your posts by selecting the level of privacy. What that means is that you can merge your private and professional accounts into one, saving you time and enabling you to control your social media in one place.
Who's behind Vero?
Until now there has been no real challenger to Facebook or Instagram because whenever an app came on the market, Mark Zuckerberg bought it out. With Vero that won't happen because the man behind it is Lebanese billionaire Ayman Hariri, son of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri.
Vero is viral
Vero was set up in 2015 and has been building a modest following following, but last week it went viral. Over 1/2 million new users registered last weekend alone. No one knows why this sudden uptake, possibly because of another change in Ig algorithms as reported on GreenTree a few weeks ago. But in one week it's gone from Mr Nobody to the number one downloaded app.
Vero has got some teething problems but that's to be expected, especially considering the sudden influx of new users. Anyone who can seriously and genuinely challenge Facebook and Instagram has got my vote. I don't know what the future will hold for Vero but the first signs are promising. Sign up now to get the name you want and if you are quick enough you'll get it for free, for life.
