Dayflash could be the social media platform visual creators have longed for
Let's face it, the Instagram and Facebook algorithms have taken the fun out of the social media platforms. Neither platform is very photographer-friendly anymore. The quantity of sponsored posts has rocketed recently and the engagement from real followers is falling as users are forced to sponsor their own posts just so people will see them. Many users / photographers have been discussing the merits of using Instagram and have been in search of a viable alternative.
In comes Dayflash. This new social media app promises an experience that encourages visual creators to share and engage freely with each other without having to convert profiles to 'business' profiles or sponsor their own posts. On Dayflash you share photos and videos, and each post is designed to be seen full screen by default. If the size of the horizontal image being uploaded is fully horizontal (i.e., the aspect ratio is greater than 4:3), then the image shared will be rotated and displayed in full-screen style. There are no promotions or paid engagement as you cannot buy followers or post engagements. Images popularity develops through producing and sharing high quality and engaging shots. This means that to gain a genuine following you need to work work and consistently, like in the days when Instagram was fun. Hashtags are NOT supported on posts. Search and discovery on Dayflash is powered by the KEYWORDS you add to your account when you edit your profile.
At this moment in time, I have to say that I haven't used the app as it is only available on the Apple App Store, and I'm an Android. I've been in contact with the guys over at Dayflash and they confirm that an Android version will be released in the near future, but the date is to be confirmed. They have also kindly invited me to be one of the first users of the Android version so look out for an update in due course.
So, if you have grown tired of Instagram and are in the market for a new social media experience, give Dayflash a go. Oh, and let me know in the comments what you think.
