At the foodcourt
Street photography should tell a story, or at least engage the viewer to ask questions about the image. This great photograph by chipje taken in Rotterdam, has both elements. You can that the young couple on the left has just got married, but what are they doing in the food-court of a shopping centre? And you can see that the woman in red on the right is asking herself that very same question. I image they are sheltering from the rain and using the location for some photos, maybe like chipje.
I like the subject matter of this photograph, and the composition too. I also like how chipje has decided to keep this in colour and not convert it to black and white, like most street photograph. The red of the woman's coat attracts the eye immediately, but then when you look left you see the newly-weds, almost making you do a double take as you probably would in real life if you saw this scene.
Chipje is a street photographer who is able to capture the right moment, and who is able to tell a story through each photograph. Please use the link above to see the image on Flickr and take your time to browse through the rest of their work. I'm sure you'll like it.
