Continuing on the theme of animals, which is dominating the photo of the day this month, I saw this beautiful photograph of an anaconda by Laila Setton and wanted to share it with you. I really like the narrow depth of field and the soft bokeh effect Laila has achieved, which makes the snake stand out. I also appreciate the contrast and detail in the scales, you get a real sense of what the skin must feel like. One other aspect that appeals to my strange sense of humour is the tongue. In Britain, we stick two fingers up at people in the same way the rest of the world uses only one. The way the snake's tongue curves around reminds me of that gesture, maybe he's trying to tell us something!
Laila is a veterinarian, and maybe because of that she comes into contact with so much of the wonderful nature she photographs. She manages to convey the beauty of the wildlife and landscape where she lives in every image. Please use the link above to see the image on 500px and take your time to browse through the rest of her work. You'll like what you see, for sure.
