I've been interested in Japanese culture for a long time, and one day I hope to visit it. This photograph by Alfonso Pace is great because it shows two completely contrasting aspects of Japan. On the left, a woman in a traditional costume, possibly a geisha, and on the right, youth culture and technology. I like how the two women are on opposite sides of this narrow passageway, almost unaware of each other. In addition, I like the post-production work that Alfonso has done on this image by making it black and white, and giving it a grungy feel with the high level of grain.
Alfonso produces a wide variety of photographs which capture the essence of the moment and transmit emotions. Please use the link above to see the image on Flickr and take your time to browse through the rest of his work. I'm sure you'll like what you see.
