Street photography has gained a great deal of popularity over the last few years. While most photographers struggle to convey any sort of message with their images, Stephen Cosh is an inspiration. I have only discovered his work recently, and I really like his style. Choosing an image to feature on GreenTree wasn't easy.
There are three main reasons why I like this particular image so much. Firstly, the lighting. The way the sun comes from the left creating a spotlight effect on the young woman and throwing her shadow onto the wall really grabs your attention. Then there is the composition. I like how Stephen has kept his distance from the subject and used the emptiness of the street. And finally, the vignetting also helps to draw us into the image. The entire scene reminds me somewhat of a theatre stage and that I am watching the protagonist enter from stage left.
Stephen is not only a street photographer but also a landscape and portrait photographer. He has a unique and highly engaging style. I strongly recommend you use the link above to see the image on Flickr and take your time to browse through the rest of his work. I know you'll enjoy what you see.
