Venice Grand Canal
There are some places in the world that are photographed so often that when a new images comes along and makes you go 'Wow!', you know it is a special photograph. I love this shot of the Grand Canal in Venice for various reasons. Firstly the warm tones give a richness to the whole image, then the fact that everything is still in the city, amazing for a city that is pretty chaotic, and finally the silky texture the long exposure has given to the water. The sense of calm is tangible.
Jamie R Mathlin is a British photographer who produces some truly spectacular images. I particularly like his post production work which gives an ethereal quality to many of his images.
